Wolfie and friends get new ECO Friendly Chiller
20th May 2010

At Exploris in Portaferry Wolfie the Wolf fish and his fellow tank mates are enjoying the comfort of a new ECO Friendly Water chiller to keep them down at temperatures of around 10 degree C. To you and me this may seem freezing, but these creatures come from deep down in the Irish Sea and need to be kept at this temperature in order to survive. In the Summer time the temperature inside the Exploris building can get up to 25 Degree C which would prove lethal for Wolfie and his friends.
The old chiller which was installed when the centre first opened had come to the end of its life and due to new Enviromental regulations needed to be replaced by a more energy efficient model to comply with F Gas regulations.
Norref Refrigeration Ltd from Co. Down won a tender to install a new Ferroli Chiller using ECO Friendly Refrigerant and giving a high Energy Efficiency Rating. Given the fact that this is an area with high concentrations of salt in the air, the exterior coil of the chiller had special treatment by Bronze Glow in the UK to protect it from the conditions which will prolong the life of the chiller.
The water in Wolfie's tank does not pass through the chiller, it passes through a heat exchanger which is cooled by the chilled water from the chiller.
Therefore Wolfie and friends were completely unaware of the work being carried out in the background, but when the warmer weather comes they will appreciate the lovely cool conditions.

Ferroli’s industrial air conditioning agency and importer dpac UK Ltd are please to announce that Roger Palamarczuk has joined the company as UK Sales Manager.
Roger, has enjoyed many years in senior positions within the industry both in the UK and overseas.
Commenting upon his new challenge Roger outlined his reasons for joining Ferroli with dpac.
“Having enjoyed my time in the applied cooling industry for many years in senior positions I was looking for a new, exciting and fresh opportunity and would only commit to do something that would also give me equal enjoyment. I believe dpac and Ferroli are the fresh face of the industry with a new approach and an exciting and well presented product portfolio of industrial air conditioning.
Once Simon Lamberton Pine dpac’s MD had explained to me what he is looking to do and the plans in place for dpac and Ferroli, I realised that this was the exciting challenge I wanted. Simon and I have crossed paths as ‘friendly rivals’ for a long time now and it will be good to work with him for once and the growing team that he is building has the right attitude; customer service and a quality product.”

Ferroli serious about air conditioning from acr news February’s edition.
February 2009:
FERROLI will underline its serious intentions in the UK industry with a large stand at RAC09 this month. Renowned as a heating company, the Italian manufacturer is spurning the lure of the H&V09 show next door to promote its commercial air conditioning products. Although having been producing cooling products for nearly 20 years they have been virtually unknown in this country until the appointment at the end of last year of SimonLamberton-Pine as UK chairman of Ferroli Industrial and residential air-conditioning based at Burton on Trent. Despite its previous low profile in the UK – the company also admits to being weak in France and Germany as well. Ferroli produces an impressive range of products encompassing water chillers and heat pumps, fan coils, air handling units, packaged air conditioners, and condensing units. Outside of Italy, Ferroli products are strong in Spain, Eastern Europe and are market leaders in Turkey.” We cannot continue to keep away from countries like the UK Germany and France,” admitted export manager Edoardo de Pantz. “In addition to the UK we are also looking at Germany and trying to enter France with heat pumps.” Significantly, the company intends to address the peculiar needs of the UK market from the beginning. “We want to play a role in the UK market but we also want to be unique,” said Edoardo dePantz. “We have the capability to customize our offering for the UK market.” Pioneers.
It was perhaps appropriate that someone with the name Dante Ferroli – the founder of the company – should go into the heating business. That was back in 1955; today Ferroli is the fifth largest boiler manufacturer in the world having doubled its turnover in last six years to around £600m.Ferroli claims to have pioneered the production of split systems for the residential market some 15 years ago. While these products are now manufactured in China, commercial ac production is firmly rooted in Italy. All coil production is in-house – a hangover from split system production – and components from well-known manufacturers: heat exchangers from Alfa Laval, fans from EBM and controls from Eli well and Sporlan.
Like all serious manufacturers, R&D key to the business. The company’s Villanova site hosts a 1,400m2facility testing to Eurovent standards. The new laboratory includes two compensated calorimeter rooms with two separate chambers to test units to a temperature of -10°C and an enthalpy tunnel built toAMCA 210 specifications for calculating the performance of the split indoor units or fan coils. A fan testing tunnel is also available to test the air flow-rate of axial-flow and tangential fans and study the flow-rate/pressure curves of centrifugal fans. The facility also incorporates a semi-anechoic chamber and separate climate chamber, which lays claim to being one of the biggest in Italy. New products underdevelopment in these facilities includes ground-source and air-source heat pumps as well as arrange of water-cooled chillers due for introduction early this year.
